Northern Soul Star to DJ after ‘Once Upon A Time In Wigan’ play.
We’re very excited to announce that our forthcoming production of ‘Once Upon A Time In Wigan’ will now feature a post-show dance and get-together with eminent Northern Soul DJ Kev Roberts.
The play celebrates the ‘all-nighter’ Northern Soul nights at Wigan Casino between 1973 and 1981, and DJ Kev Roberts will be taking to the decks after the performances for a genuine Northern Soul disco.
Kev Roberts is one of the most prominent DJs and Promoters in the world of Northern Soul and Motown music. He began his career, as an early stalwart, playing Northern Soul at the world-famous Wigan Casino in 1973. He has since played over 5000 DJ/MC appearances, curated more than 100 compilation albums, written a best-selling book “The Northern Soul Top 500”, he’s the current host of the World Northern Soul Dance Championship at Blackpool Tower, and his radio career includes Smooth, Magic, Signal and currently 45 Radio.
If that wasn’t enough, Kev is also a Songwriter, Producer and career-launcher for legends such as Edwin Starr, Jr Walker, Linda Lewis, Bizarre Inc, Altern 8, and Mai Tai, with more than 200 label credits to his name.
Kev commented “I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting collaboration. The play, ‘Once Upon A Time In Wigan’ tells the story of four youngsters who come of age through the social, political and cultural changes of 1970’s Britain. The play is brought together with a great Northern Soul Soundtrack and is set at Wigan Casino during the time when I was DJ’ing. The audience will be really immersed in the world of Northern Soul, and we wanted to keep the party going once the play has finished, so it makes perfect sense to extend this to include a post-show disco! I’ll be playing all the hits so I’ll see you on the dancefloor!”
MAODS Director, Lee Brennon, adds: “I want this production to embody the soul, passion and energy of Northern Soul music and be authentic to everyone who ever stepped foot into Wigan Casino. I want to bring the rich history and culture of Northern Soul to life, and having Kev support us will ensure that we do just that!”.
Tickets are already selling fast so check here for tickets.
Tickets are only £10 for the Thursday 23rd performance. Kev Roberts will be DJ’ing the genuine Northern Soul Disco after the Friday and Saturday nights and entry to both the play and disco is only £12.
